Wavelo, a Tucows-owned billing and provisioning company, is striving to help telcos better manage their relationship with their customers, according to CEO Justin Reilly. Since the end of fourth quarter 2022, Wavelo increased its subscriber base from 2 million to over 8 million in Q2 2023. Revenue of $10.8 million rose 20% year on year from $9 million in Q2 2022.
Tucows’ Wavelo business saw year over year revenue growth of 20% in the second quarter as subscribers have flocked to the platform. CEO Elliot Noss called Wavelo the company’s “standout business this quarter.” Wavelo is Tucows’ BSS/OSS company that offers a cloud-based software platform that provides provisioning services, billing and subscription tools for ISPs and mobile operators.

It should come as no surprise that telecoms, by nature, generate vast amounts of data. Because of that fact, it is very easy to assume that AI would be a very powerful tool for telecoms. After all, consuming and crunching data are two of AI’s most attractive qualities. Logic would have it, then, that the telecom industry is champing at the bit to leverage AI to open up new opportunities. The billion-dollar question is… how?
Think about how a customer most often interacts with their telecom provider. Your first thought might be when they buy a phone or set up a new plan. But that only happens once a year or every two years. The fact is, the most frequent interaction consumers have with their telecoms is about billing. In my experience, about half of all calls or contact with a telecom service provider concern billing.
